On est allé à Quebec !
Lansingburgh students travelled to Quebec City this spring, April 12-14 for Lansingburgh's last Québec trip. It may have been spring on the calendars, but our trip was mostly a winter event ! We stayed at L'Hotel du Vieux Québec in the heart of the old city, dividing our walking tour into two parts so we could eat dinner and warm up in between. With such windy, snowy weather, our brave guide got us into the Chateau Frontenac for a break from the weather and a quick view of luxury à la Québec.
We had a great time doing so many things - having lunch in the old part of the city (which dates back to 1609), learning about the historic battles that determined Québec's political identity, learning more about the connections between U.S. history and Québec's history, navigating our way through shopping and dining, dancing at the Sugar Shack and tasting REAL maple taffy poured out on the snow. Mostly, no matter what we were doing, it was an experience of being in another country where the historical feel , culture and language is different from our own, but linked by history and common connections. And best of all, students got to experience traveling to an unknown, different place together, giving them an opportunity to feel more confident to travel other places on their own when they have they chance as they become young adults.
I want to thank our other chaperones, Mrs. Porpeglia and Mr. Williams for coming
with us and helping it to be a safe, fun trip for all of us.
I also particularly want to thank people who helped out by supporting our Chico bag fundraising project or by contributing extra funds for our scholarships. Students raised about a thousand dollars towards the cost of their own trips, but we also had about $800
to use for scholarships. You know who you are -
MERCI BEAUCOUP ! ! ! !
P.S. I had somewhat limited photos - I must have been having too much fun to stop & take pictures!
If anyone who went has a couple of good ones you're comfortable sending via email or bringing in on a jump drive,
I'd love to have some more pictures of the weekend!
